My husband Ian has a MOTOmed arm and leg trainer which he has been using at home for a couple of years. It was bought to assist his rehabilitation following a Traumatic Brain Injury which he incurred in November 2015
He has noticed a great improvement in his level of fitness since he began using the MOTOmed. He follows a set programme where he uses the arm trainer for 10 minutes, 5 minutes forwards and 5 minutes backwards. He then cycles with his legs for 20 minutes,15 minutes forward and 5 backwards.
In that time he can achieve approximately 2 miles with the arms and over 5 miles regularly with the legs. The result is that his legs are strong and I have had to buy larger shirts for him, as his upper body muscles have developed and broadened his back. The other improvement has been a substantial reduction in the pronounced subluxation that had been present in his left shoulder. He can now walk a little at home with a stick and can attempt simple steps with assistance
There is an irony in the fact that, before his accident, Ian could not ride a bicycle (he had never had one as a child) and did not swim as he had a phobia of water. Now, cycling and hydrotherapy are two important parts of his weekly rehabilitation!
