Born with cerebral palsy, I have been a wheelchair user my whole life. In 2011, when recovering from knee surgery, I was introduced to the MOTOmed exercise bike to support my weight bearing capabilities. It was highly effective and I was able to make the most of my surgery, seeing improved strength and walking posture.
Aside from physiotherapy, the MOTOmed has helped me to keep fit. In November 2015, I started wheelchair racing and MOTOmed training allowed me to increase my aerobic capacity significantly, as a 10-mile ride became a regular part of my training regime. Five months after I started wheelchair training, I won my first ever race, placing first in the Mini Marathon Under 14 Boys’ division. I was honoured to have Prince Harry present me with my trophy. This is a title I would go on to win twice more, in 2018 and 2019 in the Under 17 category. However, the highlight of my sporting career was representing Great Britain at the World Junior Championships in Notwill, Switzerland in 2019. There I competed in the 100,200 and 400m and won 2 gold medals and a silver from these events. My use of the MOTOmed helped me a great deal to achieve this goal.
Despite wheelchair racing working my upper body hard, continued MOTOmed training has allowed me to strengthen and maintain strength in my lower limbs as well, throughout these years. This has meant that my mobility has not been affected despite the changes I experienced during adolescence.
Thank you very much.
